Best NCAA Tournament Travel Destinations

When the March Madness bracket is unveiled on Selection Sunday, fans of participating teams finally get to find out where they will be headed. Games are scattered all throughout the country, and this adds to the excitement of the event.

For those that simply love to travel, the NCAA Tournament provides some great opportunities as well. The NCAA chooses some of the top cities in the country each year to host games, and some top travel destinations are included.

Of course the action on the basketball floor will be the biggest draw, but each city will also have plenty of other things to do as well. With that in mind, here are some of the best travel destinations for cities hosting games in the 2022 NCAA Tournament.

Indy Has Experience

The NCAA tries to give many different locations the opportunity to host March Madness games, but there are some locations that always seem to get chosen. Indianapolis is one of those cities, and that’s because the city does a great job of hosting major events.

Indianapolis might not have the ideal weather or many major attractions, but there is one advantage of hosting the NCAA Tournament in this city. Everything is close together in Indy, and that makes it a terrific location for hosting these events.

The Indianapolis Zoo is a major attraction in this city, but you will love how easy it is to get around in this city.

Sunny San Diego

If you are looking for an escape from the cold then San Diego should be on the top of your list for travel destinations. San Diego will be hosting games during the first two rounds, which means that the games will be taking place in mid-March.

If you want something to do besides watching basketball then the San Diego Zoo needs to be something that you check out. This zoo is considered one of the best in the entire world, and would give you something to do on the off-day.

You can also just choose to enjoy the warmth of San Diego and thaw out from a long winter.

San Antonio Has it All

San Antonio, Texas is in the rotation to host a Final Four, but the city will have to settle for a Regional Final this year. When it comes to San Antonio, there really isn’t anything that this city doesn’t have.

The weather in San Antonio is going to be just about perfect at the end of March, and that’s great because there are so many outdoor activities to explore. At the top of the list is the Riverwalk, and you could spend days just walking up and down and never run out of things to do.

Just steps from the Riverwalk is The Alamo, and that is a place that everyone should check out at least one time. If you are planning a trip to San Antonio then pack your walking shoes and you might want to stay for about a week.

Fun in the Windy City

The city of Chicago will host one of the four regionals this year, and the Windy City is always a top travel destination. The weather in Chicago in early April can still be a bit chilly, but the long list of travel destinations make up for the cold.

Without even mentioning some of the top travel destinations, Chicago has some of the best restaurants in the world. Come hungry if you plan on going to Chicago, especially if you are someone that enjoys deep dish pizza.

Navy Pier, Michigan Ave, and “The Bean” are three of the top travel destinations that anyone visiting the city for the first time must check out.

The “Big Easy”

The Final Four will be held in New Orleans, Louisiana once again in 2022. New Orleans is in the rotation for hosting the Final Four, and this is always a top destination for travelers and basketball fans alike.

There is no shortage of things to do in New Orleans, especially if you are someone that enjoys the nightlife. The weather in New Orleans during April can vary from year to year, but it’s usually a nice and comfortable temperature each year.
