The Masskara
Festival is something to look forward to this October. Yep, I know it is still
a long way to go before October comes but it is always best to prepare ahead of
time.

You can book ahead of time to ensure you have plane tickets and accommodations for the
entire vacation to Bacolod City. Perhaps, you can even plan a side trip to
Iloilo, Boracay, or other parts of the Negros Island.
The Masskara
Festival is something you should not miss if you really want to enjoy the best
of Bacolod. Considered as one of the most colorful festivals in the country,
the Masskara Festival features a burst of colors in the form of lively dresses
and large masks that extend to become headpieces as well.
Known as the
“City of Smiles”, Bacolod has this wonderful effect of making you happy –
especially when you are in the city for the festival, of course.
The festival
itself had a dark past. It was born while the city was mourning its heavy loss
of around 700 lives from the MV Don Juan tragedy. Not wanting to forever stay
in mourning but also needing a fitting memorial for the lost lives, the city
stood up on its feet and started the Masskara Festival.
Though their
hearts were breaking and tears were flowing down their eyes, they were able to
show the whole world that they were still the City of Smiles because of the
forever smiling masks they created.
This year’s
Masskara Festival is still too far away from today yet we’re excited to share
with you the schedule of activities.
