ON TRAVEL| Have you tried or
would you try to ride in a “Habal-habal”? It is one of the most
common modes of transportation here in Mindanao. Not your usual motorcycle for
riding, habal-habal serves as means of transportation for commuting public in
rural areas of Surigao del Norte and most provinces of Mindanao. It is an ordinary or any brand/type of
motorcycles redesigned as a public transport that can tolerate rocky, muddy,
and off the beaten roads. A big help to
locals usually living in mountainous areas wherein roads are mostly not
accessible by 4 wheel vehicles. Interesting about this mode of transportation
is that the ability/skill of the driver to balance considering the weight of
the passengers from side to side, front, plus another 3 to 4 persons at his
back.

pretty nice rides for those adults but seeing kids riding like this makes my heart broken and melt. its not just safe for them…
ReplyDeleteYou have to be skilled to drive this as it's a bit risky but I'm sure people are used to this type of transportation there.
ReplyDeleteThe way I look at the picture and seeing the kids riding on this so-called habal-habal means of transporting these kids leads me to a feeling that this is too dangerous. Thought how careful and skillful or expert the motorized bike driver is.

ReplyDeleteI believe this habal-habal is only seen in the Philippines. It's quite unique for a motorcycle to balance those many passengers.
ReplyDeletei saw this habal-habal when i went to the home of my mother, Davao.. hahaha. nad nakakatakot tignan. baka mahulog ung mga pasahero. hehe
ReplyDeleteI've seen this too when we went to Surigao del Sur last year and I find it really dangerous. But come to think of it, it's one thing that is unique as filipino kahit pangdalawahan lang ang sasakyan nagagawang pang madamihan =)

ReplyDeleteI've seen this mode of transpo from a foto sent by a friend - very risky I say, byaheng al fresco! :D But risky as it is, hope they make sure kids are well strapped...or so :/

ReplyDeleteI don't actually know if I have the courage to ride a habal-habal because of my natual fear of riding without "cover". I'm sure this will be an adventure for me.

ReplyDeleteThis is so dangerous. I saw this scene many times in our province. We call it as habal-habal.

this is the most dangerous public transport vehicle I have seen and every time I saw one, I am shaking in disbelief.

ReplyDeleteWe have habal habal here in Manila as well, it's just not as common and you don't see that much people riding on one motorcycle. I'm with the rest of the commenters, it doesn't seem safe for this kids! :P

omg... ayokong maranasan ang ganyang adventure... nakakatakot... sa highway pa sila dumadaan so risky kasi mabilis ang speed... natatakot ako sa mga bata...tss

ReplyDeleteHabal-habal is one of my most feared modes of transportation in the Philippines. Buti na lang yung mga nasasakyan ko ay mga expert yung drivers.

Habal habal is really enjoying but I understand it dangerous, An Accident can happen while Habal habal.
