The Lantawan EcoPark is a perfect place to unwind, relax and enjoy the freedom in nature at its finest. The EcoPark is a forest-protected area planted and surrounded with mahoganies, pine trees, germilinas, and other local trees. The area was also declared as Regional Nursery of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. It is also home for surrendered/rescued animals like “Bebang”, serpent and hawk eagles, monkeys, and specie of hornbill- I am not sure if it is the Philippine Hornbill (Rufous Hornbill) or locally known as Kalaw. From the park, you can see the perfect and the most panoramic view of Mainit Lake - one of the country's deepest lakes.
The area including the facilities is now under a
co-management agreement between the Local Government Unit (LGU) and the
Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) by virtue of the joint
Department of Environment and Natural Rersources - Department of Interior and Local Government Memorandum Circular Number 2003-01.

Honestly, I am not also in favor of "animals in cages" as I do believe that these species’ perfect home and place is their natural habitat where they are free, can hunt for living, and multiply. Anyway, (for sure) DENR and the Local Government have valid reasons in caging these (I think) endangered species.

How to Get There:
The Lantawan Eco Park is more or less 15 minutes habal-habal ride from the town proper of Kitcharao. From Butuan City, ride in a bus bound to Surigao City- travel time is almost 2 hours. If you're coming from Surigao City, ride in a bus bound to Butuan City- travel time is more than an hour. Tell the driver/conductor to drop you in eskina/crossing going to Lantawan EcoPark. From eskina, you have two choices to reach the site - either to walk for more or less 20 minutes and enjoy the nature while passing the durian plantation or ride in a habal-habal.

I think animals in ecoparks are also there to raise awareness with them and also show people why nature should be taken cared of. Looks like a really nice place to visit because of the animals.
ReplyDeleteI agree bro! thanks for dropping here:)
DeleteBIG regret I wasn't able to drop here. Kasi naman kulang sa time. I remember Mainit Lake, ang ganda diyan with the island at the middle :)
ReplyDeleteSayang bro... yeah the islet nga :) I am always at awe kapag nadadaanan ko ang mainit lake specially during sunset :)
DeleteI do agree with you that this place is a perfect one for relaxation and communion with the nature. Also an ideal place to preserve the country's endangered species of birds and animals.
ReplyDeleteIndeed sir Gil! thanks po for dropping here :)
DeleteYes, I believe some animals are kept in captivity to protect/study them. I guess the issue is, how big are the cages? It has to mimic its natural environment.
ReplyDeleteYey! thanks for dropping here Gay :) the honor is mine hehehe
DeleteMaybe this place is the best to go to when one is beset with problems. Connecting with nature (plants and animals) can be done here.
ReplyDeleteyeah, a serene place - relaxing Rochkirstin :)
Deletethe mainit lake is really quite a view! i hope i can visit this eco park one day. eco parks sure are a great way for us to commune with nature, a very relaxing activity.
ReplyDeletei am also against caging animals, hopefully the local authorities do have valid reasons for doing that to those eco park residents.
for sure they have jared :) thanks for dropping here :)
DeleteWow I want see the majestic view of Lake Mainit too! =) I'm planning to go to Butuan next month for a business trip so might as well go to Lantawan Eco =)
ReplyDeleteGo Kim! Butuan, Kitcharao and the rest of CARAGA is a full packed destination :)
DeleteThat Lake Mainit is is quite something! Better get this on my list when I'm on Butuan.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was an islet surrounded by sea. The lake is a great view from Eco Park vantage point.
ReplyDeleteI actually want to know the reason why they put those animals in cages. It's just not right, especially when they're by their natural habitat. Nonetheless, I loved the ambiance that Lantawan Eco park exuded. It's quite refreshing. :)
ReplyDeletei wonder if people can swim from beach to that island
ReplyDeleteKung saan saan ka na nakakapunta , astig sya noh isang isla na eco park ang peg
ReplyDeleteNagkamali ako islet view from the park pala
ReplyDeleteThat islet is interesting. I'm pretty sure DENR have a valid reason for keeping these endangered animals in captivity because they know better than any of us.
ReplyDeleteThat islet is a nice place to unwind and experience nature, I hope travelling there is safe and convenient for the kids.
ReplyDeleteBebang is a monitor Lizzard???
ReplyDeletehere I it was something else.
I agree with you Jeff, though I've visited a few zoo's and recreational centers that feature exotic animals. Ive grown weary and disgusted with them.
I dont like to see caged animals, even the dangerous one's
specie nga bro ng monitor lizard - distinct feature nya yung yellow spots :)
DeletePlace like this is what we need to visit to unwind, and relax while admiring those beautiful animals.
ReplyDeleteThis place looks like a must-visit. Sana naman makapunta ako dyan someday for a quickie tour! Hehe
